Happy Sunday, friends! Hope you’ve all been able to pull as much joy from the last week as possible—it was definitely a cup-filler sort of week for me, and I’m left feeling more recharged than I have in a while.
Let’s dig in:
THIS WEEK, I’M GRATEFUL FOR:
Film photography. At the start of the week, our wedding photographer sent over the extra film reel her partner shot, and we picked up most of the disposable cameras we had circulating at our reception—all of these pics have been SO fun to go through together and to share out with the friends and family featured in them. I’m in the process of making a wedding scrapbook out of the leftover pages of our guestbook, and I’ve loved getting to relive the day again and again as I gradually get more prints to add into the mix.
THIS WEEK, I’M PROUD OF MYSELF FOR:
Finally, FINALLY rebuilding my reading habit. I’m not sure if any other former English majors can relate, but for years after I finished my degree, I had a really hard time getting back into reading for pleasure. Even during the pandemic—when I had all the time in the world to read—it was rare for me to find a book that held my attention long enough for me to immerse myself in it. But since the start of this year, I’ve been reading and listening to audiobooks feverishly (I’m trying to read at least 25 books this year, and I’m on track to already be at 7 or 8 by the end of February) and have no intention of slowing down! Books have always been at the core of my world, so I’m thrilled to be making such good progress with rebuilding my offline attention span and consuming my OG favorite form of content again.
READ SO FAR IN 2025:
Fourth Wing & Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros
Circe by Madeline Miller
What I Ate in One Year by Stanley Tucci
Parable of the Sower by Octavia E. Butler
CURRENTLY READING:
Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros
Blues People by LeRoi Jones
The Poppy War by R. F. Kuang (but I have to be honest, y’all: not sure I’m gonna finish this one. I’ve heard people love it, so I’m trying to stick it out, but I’m finding it surprisingly dry so far.)
THIS WEEK, I DISCOVERED:
The beauty of the Beltline. R and I have gone to one or two restaurants/bars on the path, but this was our first time walking around and properly exploring it during the day. We have a bunch of new places on our list that we want to check out in the future after spending the afternoon bopping around there, and I definitely think I’m going to do some of my 15k training there as we get into spring—such a cool stretch of art and small businesses to have access to!
THIS WEEK, I ENJOYED:
Nice dinners & catch-up chats. My parents’ visit felt way too short, as it usually does, but getting to show them around more of the city and have great food/drinks with them for a couple days was exactly what I’ve been needing. We always laugh a ton, and it brings me so much joy to see each of them bonding more and more with R as time goes on. Already working on planning my next trip home, and my mom’s already looking for the next time she can come out on her own (in part so we can find time to go shopping since neither of the guys had much interest in going).
NEXT WEEK, I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO:
The return of the farmer’s market! My favorite one I’ve been to so far in Atlanta is the Peachtree Road Farmer’s Market, and next Saturday is their opening day for the new season. Honestly not expecting much more than root vegetables since it’s still so early in the year, but just the ritual of walking around the market on Saturday mornings is one I’ve missed and can’t wait to get back into the rotation.
A QUOTE TO TAKE YOU INTO THE NEW WEEK:
“Please try to remember that what they believe, as well as what they do and cause you to endure, does not testify to your inferiority but to their inhumanity.”
~ James Baldwin
Enjoy your pancakes, be good to each other, and I’ll see you here next week!
